Nando’s Peri Peri Machado
Recognized by chicken lovers around the globe, the Portuguese-inspired Nando’s has grown from its initial location in Johannesburg, South Africa, to more than 1,000 locations in 35 countries. Specializing in flame-grilled chicken, the casual-dining restaurant offers a number of toppings, but is understandably famous for its four spicy peri-peri marinades. Nando’s chicken is served in quarters, halves, whole and — in some locations — in the form of butterflied breasts. The chain also sells burgers, salads, wings and wraps. In 2010, Advertising Age magazine ranked Nando’s as being among the world’s 30 top marketing brands. Shown here, a classic machado, or Portuguese cleaver, used at Nando’s to carve their chicken.
